Clear Acrylic (Perspex) Balustrade infill panels
There are two main reasons people fill in balustrades and pool fences with acrylic, either for safety so that toddlers can’t climb or fall through or for wind protection.
The balustrade pictured is on the fourth floor and the new owners have a toddler who is just starting to climb. This installation has been done very neatly using heavy duty electrical ties, which allow the balustrade panels to move slightly with expansion on hot days. Vision is not obstructed (in fact it is hard to see the acrylic panels). More importantly there are no handholds or footholds for children to climb and a cool breeze should not deter people from sitting outside. There are a variety of thicknesses used for balustrades, mainly depending on the level of support and attachment method used.
4.5mm panels are commonly fitted in simple timber beadings, 10mm panels can be bolted in place with the edges flame polished and exposed as a feature, 3mm polycarbonate can be ziptied to pool fences and stainless cable balustrades to eliminate climbing hazards and reduce windblown leaves or grass clippings entering the pool area. It all depends on what you have to work with and what you want to create. Give us a call or email us a photo so we can suggest some alternatives.
Please remember, we are not a building company, we do not install or design, we supply plastic panels to customer’s requirements. In some areas we can put you in touch with an experienced builder for installation. Your local council or Building Consultant or Architect can inform you as to what is legal and correct for balustrades in your area.
We are presently developing a framing system which will make installation easier on the stainless cable or timber balustrades and pool fences.
The new easy fit framed balustrade panels will require less attachment points and result in a more rigid panel.
